DON’T DRINK WATER THAT’S BEEN SITTING OVERNIGHT – OR LONGER! IT CAN MAKE YOU SICK!

If you have a habit of drinking water during the night then you should know that you always have to drink it fresh as the one left on the night stand is not healthy at all.

If you leave the glass of water on the night stand many unhealthy things can happen to it. For instance a mosquito can drop into the glass or some other fly. You may consider using a closed container like bottle but this is also not healthy at all as our skin is covered with skin cells, sweat, dust, remnants of food and so on. When we repeatedly put our mouth on the brim of the bottle we are transferring all these substances into the water causing contamination. Aside all these things, there are also the bacteria present in our saliva which can do exact the same thing.

According to Marc Leavey, MD, primary care specialist at Mercy Medical Center in Massachusetts:“If it’s allowed to incubate for hours, that could possibly pollute the water, and make you ill by reintroducing that bacteria. Once you have put your lips to the bottle, you should drink that bottle in one sitting and after that throw it.”

You may think that those are your own bacteria which will not make you sick, but still it is not recommended to drink from used drinking glasses especially to those persons with weak immune system, including cancer patients undergoing chemo, HIV infected persons and transplant patients.

Likewise, it s not advised to consume the bottle of water left in your car and exposed to sunlight as it will eventually heat up and result in ideal breeding ground for bacteria. Putting it under the seat is also not a good solution because the bacteria will still grow.

We need to emphasize that the use of plastic bottles is extremely harmful for your health. Most of the plastic containers contain BPA or similar dangerous chemicals which leach into the water once left on sun exposure. As per a conducted study, BPA can trigger certain health conditions which can negatively influence the brain and our behavior. However, the FDA still maintains that the levels of BPA in plastic containers are within safe limits. Therefore, make sure to avoid plastic bottles, instead of them use glass bottles.

Proper hydration is of vital importance for your body and health, and you need to pay attention to this matter, but you also have to be careful in the way how you consume your water in order to remain healthy. This is what the renowned Dr. Leay states on this issue: “Avoid putting your mouth to the bottle. Just pour it into a cup or pour it directly into your mouth.”
